HONOR AWARD WINNER!

The American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) National 2010 Engineering Excellence Awards Gala celebrates the innovation, expertise, and achievements of ACEC Member Firms from throughout the nation. The Housatonic River Museum Net-Zero Energy Building Study has been selected as an Honor Award recipient. The awards ceremony is part of the ACEC Annual Convention and Legislative Summit at The Grand Hyatt in Washington DC on April 27 2010.

DIAMOND AWARD WINNER!

The American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) New York – 2010 Engineering Excellence Awards presented The Housatonic River Museum Net-Zero Energy Building Study with the Diamond Award (highest level) at The Waldorf=Astoria in New York City on March 27 2010.

Please join the the Housatonic River Museum in partnership with area environmental and arts organizations as we celebrate water in our landscape. JUMP IN! will featurephotographs, paintings, drawings, sculpture, writing and video inspired by the waters of our region and the premiere of A Sound Map of The Housatonic River, a commissioned sound installation by Annea Lockwood. Water-related events and entertainment will compliment the artful offerings at the gallery.

Opening reception Friday September 4 2009 5:30-8:00. Free and open to the public.

April 2009

Received Green Pastures grant from Berkshire Taconic Community Foundation to establish a community garden in partnership with the Conte Community School, Pittsfield MA

December 2008
Schematic Design for the Housatonic River Museum is completed by FXFOWLE ARCHITECTS PC and Roto Studio. Sustainable goals and strategies include operation as a net-zero energy building with a zero-carbon footprint. In addition, the design of the Housatonic River Museum will pursue LEED Platinum Certification from the US Green Building Council to meet the highest standards for site sensitivity, energy efficiency, water conservation and indoor air quality.

May 2008:
First Housatonic River Museum Scholarship for Environmental Studies at Berkshire Community College, Pittsfield, MA is awarded.

January 2008-present:
FXFOWLE and Roto Studio continue to work on the design and development of the Housatonic River Museum building and exhibits.

January 2008:
Site model completed by Tessa Kelly and delivered to FXFOWLE ARCHITECTS in NYC.

December 2007 – May 2009
To raise awareness of the project and its mission of Environmental Education outreach, the Housatonic River Museum, led by Director of Education, Stephanie Bergman, created and implemented programs with schools (in-school, after school and summer), museums, community centers and other area non-profits:

December 2007:
Stephanie Bergman was hired as Director of Education. Ms. Bergman holds a Master’s degree in Environmental Education from The Audubon Expedition Institute/Lesley University and a Bachelor’s degree in Biology from the University of Michigan. She has over 10 years experience in the environmental education field.

Housatonic River Museum joins US Green Building Council and the Berkshire County Branch of the New York Upstate Chapter.

October 2007:
Existing structures were demolished by Variety Trucking of Pittsfield leaving a clean level lot at the entrance to Historic Wahconah Park between Adrien’s Diner and Tahiti Takeout Restaurant and Lounge.

September 2007:
127-133 Wahconah Street in Pittsfield, MA was purchased. The site will be the home of the Housatonic River Museum.

September 2007:
River Museum, Inc received 501(c)(3) status from the IRS. All donations to the Housatonic River Museum are tax deductible to the extent allowed by law.

July 2007:
The Housatonic River Museum Scholarship for Environmental Studies was established as an endowed scholarship at Berkshire Community College in Pittsfield, MA
